Admission to the adult inpatient unit is arranged by a psychiatrist with admitting privileges.
Discharge/Transfer or Completion
Average length of stay on the unit is about 11 days. Discharge is part of a process that involves the entire treatment team and any other resources necessary.
Access
Access is by the Psychiatrist. Psychiatrists, often in consultation with other staff, decide whether or not to admit. No referral is necessary. Urgent admissions are often assessed in the emergency department by the psychiatrist or their designate.
